Medicinal Plants and Primary Healthcare at Science Express Climate Action Special halted at Wadi Railway Station, Gulbarga: 6th - 8th April 2016

With the support of FRLHT’s ENVIS Centre on Medicinal Plants, Centre of Excellence on Medicinal Plants and Bio-Resource Information Centre on Indian Medicinal Plants Database Medicinal Plants and Primary Health Care, Neighbourhood Trees of our City, ENVIS mobile App and Neighbourhood Medicinal Plants App were displayed at Science Express Climate Action Special halted at Wadi Railway Station, Gulbarga from 6th to 8th April 2016. This was through the extended support by Science Express team in displaying these posters. The visitors were benefited by these posters in relating them to simple primary healthcare remedies at home and their propagation in their home herbal gardens.

Participation at Science Express Climate Action Special exhibitions at Ashokapuram, Mysuru and Hospet, Ballari, Karnataka: 30th March - 5th April 2016

Ms. Suma T. S., Senior Program Officer and Ms. Soumyashree N., Research Fellow from FRLHT—TDU, Bangalore had participated in Science Express Climate Action Special exhibitions, halted at Ashokapuram Railway Station, Mysuru from 30th March to 2nd April, 2016 an Hospet Railway Station, Ballari on 5th April 2016. With the support of FRLHT’s ENVIS Centre on Medicinal Plants, Centre of Excellence on Medicinal Plants and Bio-Resource Information Centre on Indian Medicinal Plants Database Medicinal Plants and Primary Health Care and others posters were displayed these stations.

UGC sponsored National Seminar on Medicinal Plants and Natural Products. : 20th -21st January 2016

UGC sponsored National Seminar on Medicinal Plants and Natural Products was held at KKTM Govt. College, Pullut, Kerala. The sessions included paper and poster presentation by undergraduate, postgraduate students and research scholars from various colleges to promote scientific research in the field of medicinal plants. Workshop of Medicinal plants and Primary Health care. : 18th -22nd January 2016

Education innovation team of IAIM- TDU had organized 5 days workshop on ‘Medicinal plants and Primary Health care’.

Orientation Program on Plant Morphology, Anatomy and Conservation of Medicinal Plants for the School Students of Maruthi International School, Tumkur : 4th January 2016

Orientation Program was conducted at TDU Campus, Bengaluru. The cities have witnessed an incredible urbanization of late, in the name of modernization leading to rapid diminishing of green cover. It is necessary to maintain an ecological balance, a truth not sufficiently appreciated and understood in the world of urbanist advocacy. Cities need both beauty and function of nature to regulate pollution, restore and improve human and ecosystem health. Understanding and appreciation of urban ecosystem and planning development in harmony with nature can go a long way in building a healthy urban ecology and therefore, pertinent to mould the young mind in conserving the biotic components in a whole hearted and conscious manner.

A day out with "Neighbourhood Medicinal Plants of Bangalore City" : 27th October 2015

The workshop in Ethno-medicinal plants Nursery, FRLHT- TDU campus was conducted for28 students along with 3 teachers from Poorna Learning Centre, Bangalore, and 4 children of FRLHT staffs. This was supported by: ENVIS, MOEF&CC and BRIC, DBT.

An Invited talk was organized by the project – Digitization of Medical Manuscripts of Karnataka, FRLHT-TDU, Bangalore. Eminent professor Dr. Siddharth Y. Wakankar (Ex. Deputy Director, Oriental Research Institute, M.S. University, Baroda) delivered the talk on "Pakashastra and other Ayurveda related Manuscripts" (Traditional culinary in ancient manuscripts).

Awareness-Cum-Orientation Workshop on Pharmacognosy of Plant Based Raw Drugs Used in Indian Herbal Sector; jointly organized by FRLHT- ITDHST (TDU), Bangalore. and Lakshmi Seva Sangham, Dindigul: 22nd June 2015

A one day workshop was organized for 5 pharmacy staff members of Lakshmi Seva Sangham at FRLHT, Bangalore on 22nd June 2015. They were exposed to various methods that can help them identify the raw drugs through careful observation of live plant materials and raw drugs from wild and various markets deposited in the FRLH Herbarium. They were taught how to differentiate the authentic, alternatives and adulterants for select species and materials. Dried raw drugs were described based on macroscopic features such as morphology, textures, secondary growths of cortex, hairs and margins of leaves, seed characteristics and so on.

Indian Biodiversity Congress 2012, Bangalore, from 8th to 11th Dec 2012.   

This is the first major event in India on biodiversity in the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity (2011-12). There will be National Seminar on the focal theme is “Bio-diversity of the western ghats-challenges and strategies for conservation and sustainable management”. There will also be National Photography competition on Western Ghats biodiversity and culture plus a documentary film festival on Nature and Biodiversity. Indian Biodiversity Expo is also organized. Participation can be seen from R and D centres, Educational institutions, NGOs, corporates, State Biodiversity Boards, scientists, conservationist, environmentalist, resource managers, planners, policy makers, civil societies, public and all those concerned with Biodiversity.
